Hi.

In TBM Studio there are 2 different ways of exporting data to Excel.  The first is to right-click the table/report and select “Open in Excel”,  which will then only download the data under review whilst continuing to apply any filters that were set.  This makes for a quick and inexpensive download.  The second option is to use the Export button on the studio ribbon and select Excel.  This will however, export the table/report data in its entirety regardless of any filtering previously applied.  Without knowing, our user could have downloaded a multi-tabbed report with potentially too many rows for Excel to handle and would also have a detrimental impact on system performance.
 

Even with our regular communication and end-user education, some of our largest reports (when updated), can cause our system to grind to a halt as many users look to get the latest data and choose to use the ribbon button at the same time.

• removing visibility of the Export Button from the ribbon in studio?
• finding an alternative permission other than the ‘CanExportExcel’?

I'm not ready to give up on this yet as I believe the 2 different options described above are asking 2 different conditions of Apptio.  The first being a filtered down, low impact request for data. The second option inadvertently provides the user with more data than they want or need and at peak times will cause performance issues and a bad customer experience.
