CICS TG - in maintenance mode?

Hi there,

Last year, we participated in the GSE UK conference. There was a really interesting presentation about the different methods of connecting synchronously with the mainframe through CICS TS. I was a bit surprised that the presenter did not mention CICS TG as a way to connect to CICS.

After the presentation, I asked him about it, and he seemed a little surprised that we use the TG to connect. During our further discussion, I got the impression that TG isn't a priority for IBM and won't receive any of the cool new features. In other words, it seems to be in maintenance mode to me.

I did a little Google search on what’s new in the latest versions of TG, and I got the feeling that maybe the presenter was right.

What do you think about this? What kind of connection does your shop use to perform CICS calls?

Wolfgang,

CTG is still a strategic offering for integration with CICS TS, and enhancements continue to be made.  CTG V10.1.0 was released in August 2024.  One of the key enhancements delivered is HA capability for IPIC connections between CTG z/OS and CICS TS.  In September 2024, the CTG product team gave an excellent overview of explaining CTG's role as a strategic integration solution as well as a number of new features.   Here is the link to the recording of the event: https://video.ibm.com/recorded/133989896.
