Hello Saaraunsh - That is very unusual for all the changes on a table to be lost if you are saving regularly. Best practice is to select save before moving on to other tables and when you select save to wait for the spinning circle to complete in the dataset preview before moving on. 

When you ask if check in regularly, can you expand on what that means? For example daily? Or multiple times a day? Depending on the work and your environments calculation times would be very dependent on the answer to this question.

I generally recommend checking things in ask you finish groups of tasks or if you are going to be away from your desk for awhile.   I agree with Renee that it's unusual to lose work that you have saved.  That seems like it could be a network issue or a caching issue or something like that. ​

And a third tip - document, document, document😉  Whenever I'm working on something, I've learned to keep a copy of the logic in Notepad along with my notes.  Really helps on those days that you're in the zone and going ninety to nothing and doing a lot of back and forth.  Have learned much through trial and error and forgetting where I was at lol, but now I make sure to document as I go along - saves time and rework. 😁

Because this behavior is unusual I would second the recommendation of submitting a support ticket.  They may be able to look at it and see if there is something else going on.

This is really strange. I have not lost unchecked—but saved—changes, even through a maintenance window.
Since Apptio introduced the Disable Staging feature, doing more frequent check-ins might make sense. I'm using it occasionally.
