Can virtual and real sysplexes be in an RMMplex?

Hi,

We currently have 20 sysplexes with shared DASD , sharing an RMM CDS.

There is a mixture of real sysplexes and virtual z/OS sysplexes running under z/VM.

This has been "working" for several years, but we've recently started getting errors such as

EDG2105E JOURNAL FILE IS LOCKED - SCHEDULE CONTROL DATA SET BACKUP TO CLEAR IT

Running a CDS backup on one of the sysplexes, "fixes" or unlocks the Journal on that system, but the other systems remain locked.

So if we run backups on each of the other systems, they too are unlocked.

Is this the expected behaviour when multiple sysplexes are sharing a CDS?

Thanks,

Travis

Hi Travis,

That sounds frustrating! I can see why you have this question.

It's my understanding that in this context the process to resolve the EDG2105E in an environment like yours would be closer to:

  1. Quiesce RMM on all systems that share the CDS
  2. Run EDGHSKP(BACKUP) on the main system where the CDS and journal are stored
  3. Restart RMM on the main system where the CDS and journal are stored
  4. Restart RMM on all other systems

If problems still persist, I recommend reaching out to our wonderful service team by submitting a ticket with them!

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
