We're a software vendor that remotely supports an "on-prem" application that runs on AIX and always had graphics console or terminal for console access.
With Power10 our customers are forced to use an HMC and to run a standalone AIX instance on the Power10 it seems we must use "User-Initiated" which negates the option to set Auto-Start Always.
Power on system
I found this article; (note, it's for POWER9) that mentions in ASMI there is an option to set "auto-power-restart". We do not have a lab to test, would this accomplish what we're looking for?
Setting auto-power restart - IBM Documentation
Recently we've had a few customers loose power in their datacenter and the Power10 just boots to standby requiring user-intervention to activate the standalone AIX instance. We have not found a way around this. Warm reboots work fine but if the server is powered down or looses power it seems it requires HMC access and user intervention.
Hi Ron,
The HMC supports setting a Partition Start power on policy of Auto-Start Always for Power10 systems. Do you get an error when you try to set that?
Best regards,
Stephanie
