According to this IBM documentation, ZD&T Personal Edition will no longer be available for renewal next year.

Will there be any alternative for individuals?

For example, in my case, I can't afford the cost of the Enterprise Edition—over €19,000 to upgrade from PE to EE—or the more than €90,000 required for the new IBM Test Accelerator for Z.

I use ZD&T Personal Edition to learn and test new z/OS features, which I later apply in real client environments. This hands-on experience also allows me to promote IBM technologies and help others understand their value.

Dear Javier,

we are using https://www.ibm.com/products/wazi-as-a-service :

IBM® Wazi as a Service is a solution that enables a cloud native development and test experience for z/OS® in IBM Cloud® Virtual Private Cloud (VPC). With Wazi as a Service, application developers can develop and test z/OS application components in a virtual infrastructure "as a Service" environment running on IBM Z architecture on IBM Public Cloud.

we are quite happy with that.

Kind regards,

René

In my case, I have the perpetual license, so I assume I’ll still be able to use it, but I won’t receive any further updates since the license is being discontinued, and I won’t be able to renew support either.

Hello Rene

Thank you very much! It is a very good suggestion!

It seems that the basic server cost arround 1588 €/month for 730 hours (estimated).

But do you only pay for the time the server is running? For example, if you shut it down it at night, you don't pay that time, right?

Hi Javier,

we use this for development and demos.

we have a windows server for our Kobee product (Kobee.io) and a Wazi instance for doing/demoing our compiles and deploys.

we used the system to implement, besides our standard JCL based solution, DBB and Wazi Deploy/

next to the windows and Wazi instance we have a backup for each.

yes you mostly just pay for the time you use. (and some fixed cost). see our monthly use for the last year

detail November:

detail August 2025 use:

I hope this helps,

René

Hello Rene

Thanks so much for the detailed explanation!
And just to get a rough idea (if you remember), approximately how many hours did you use it in August?

I have these stats: (see attached for one year history).

If you are a partner IBM will probably give you some free credits to start

Date and time (+02 UTC),"Average CPU (%)","Average CPU (%)","Average CPU (%)","Average CPU (%)","Average CPU (%)"
