Hello all, I have a question.
I use the 5250 console when connecting to IBM i from HMC.
What are the password rules for the shared session key that I enter at that time? It seems that an error occurs if the same character is followed, but where is this control handled? There is no specific mention of this in the manual.

Hi,

Some information here about session key: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/power10/9105-22B?topic=console-opening-local-5250-session-from-hmc.

Unless needed I keep it simple, like "abc123" πŸ˜‰

Other than it must contain a digit and cannot have the same character consecutively I don't know of any other restrictions. However I've been using the same shared session keys probably since we got our first HMC.

In addition to what I answered before, there's also a minimum length.

Thank you for your comment.

Your quick response is much appreciated.

The documentation does not contain detailed rules for key sessions, but is there anything on the support website?

In the documentation link you provided I clicked on the thumbs down at the top right.  This prompted me for what they could do to make the site more helpful.  I replied with

Password rules.
In addition to requiring a numeric digit include the rest of the rules.  Ones I know of include:
- Minimum length
- No 2 adjacent characters may be the same
