I've seen many issues with ftp on the i. Most of them are externally caused. I've seen switch ports cause issues. Work fine will all other traffic but sometimes not FTP. Make sure that the network adapter is feeding through an enterprise type switch and not one of those interim dinky switches or hubs. ...

Depends on the situation, but the ESS site should have the keys for 7.2. You shouldn't need SWMA to access the keys. https://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/ess/landing/index.html ------------------------------ Jim Wannabe Curmudgeon... Senior Systems Engineer CAS Severn, Inc Laurel, MD ...

Typically any adapter is updated via PTF. For it to take, either the card or the system has to be IPL'd or the adapter 'reset' in SST. I would think, but not sure, that the hardware group would have that update. Fix Central has the update but you would need to explore that to be sure. https://w ...

Changing OS 'stuff' is perfectly acceptable of course but one has to keep in mind that an OS upgrade or even a PTF update could revert the message back to stock. One has to keep track of these changes or put them somewhere that won't be affected by an OS upgrade or PTF update. Not sure about how an ACS ...

Replying to myself here. Went out to econfig cloud and configured a deskside system with NVMe U.2. I don't see any warning messages about fan noise with the U.2 NVMe feature. Is it somewhere else not intuitively obvious to the un-initiated? It should be in big and bold characters. I did find the noise ...

Yes, I think it's comparable to a system with HDDs. I don't think you'll have an issue with noise after that fix, but golly gee, you will have it before the fix. Hopefully you aren't putting it in during working hours, though. This would be only with the 41G models with NVMe U.2 in the front. I've got ...

The NVMe U.2 deskside is definitely louder and I missed that memo about the fan noise. I have applied the latest firmware VL950_075_045 MH01891 which has helped lower the noise. I used the NVMe U.2 because I can get the plant to create the namespaces ahead of time and it was enterprise rated. As I am ...

We should also make this a sounding board for installations. I have a tip for V7R4 Power9's with the initial power up and setting up the console. Connecting the laptop directly to the console port and powering on...make sure that the unit is in manual (I forget this half the time..doh!) and switch it ...

I thought it quite interesting. Thanks for doing that. I do like that the tower units come with that accessory box. Don't know why the rack mounted units do not. I go through quite a lot of these unboxings during the year. ------------------------------ James Sparkman -------------------------- ...
