  • 1.  VIOS 4.1.1.0.0 fails

    Posted Wed December 11, 2024 10:46 AM

We attempted to upgrade our VIOS 4.1.0.21 servers to 4.1.1.0.0 but it failed miserably. The servers got stuck at code : 0554

There were a lot of MISSING REQUISITES as well and when it went to reboot, there was an issue with /etc/shutdown :

    Unmounting the file systems...

/etc/shutdown[1376]: echo: write to 1 failed [I/O error]

/etc/shutdown[1387]: echo: write to 1 failed [I/O error]

Our command run as padmin :  ioscli updateios -f -accept -install -dev /mnt/$UPDATE

(we're not concerned with the languages, but the ones in bold look concerning)

MISSING REQUISITES:  The following filesets are required by one or more

of the selected filesets listed above.  They are not currently installed

    Scott,

you are too fast :-) The official GA day afair is tomorrow to make the last Friday 13th the most remarkable day of the year for each AIX/VIOS administrator in the world.

I tested the update on two of my VIOSes without LPAR clients and the update worked as expected. I've got some requisite problems but nothing crucial:

    dsm.core 7.3.3.0 Requisite failure
    bos.suma 7.3.3.0 Requisite failure
    bos.net.tcp.rcmd_server 7.3.3.0 Requisite failure
    bos.net.tcp.rcmd 7.3.3.0 Requisite failure
    bos.msg.pt_BR.svprint 7.3.3.0 Requisite failure
    bos.msg.pt_BR.mls.rte 7.3.3.0 Requisite failure
    bos.msg.it_IT.svprint 7.3.3.0 Requisite failure
    bos.msg.it_IT.mls.rte 7.3.3.0 Requisite failure
    bos.msg.fr_FR.svprint 7.3.3.0 Requisite failure
    bos.msg.fr_FR.mls.rte 7.3.3.0 Requisite failure
    bos.msg.es_ES.svprint 7.3.3.0 Requisite failure
    bos.msg.es_ES.mls.rte 7.3.3.0 Requisite failure
    bos.msg.en_US.mls.rte 7.3.3.0 Requisite failure
    bos.msg.de_DE.svprint 7.3.3.0 Requisite failure
    bos.msg.de_DE.mls.rte 7.3.3.0 Requisite failure
    bos.msg.ca_ES.svprint 7.3.3.0 Requisite failure
    bos.msg.ca_ES.mls.rte 7.3.3.0 Requisite failure
    bos.esagent 7.3.3.0 Requisite failure
    bos.ecc_client.rte 7.3.3.0 Requisite failure
    X11.apps.msmit 7.3.3.0 Requisite failure

They are booted and show me 4.1.1.00

    $ ioslevel
    4.1.1.00

You may need to re-download your update from the IBM FixCentral one more time.

    Hi Scott,

While updating to 4.1.1.0, there will be certain Requisite Failures which can be ignored. Detailed list is mentioned in the release notes at  https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/7178052?mhsrc=ibmsearch_a&mhq=vios%204%26period%3B1%26period%3B1

You may try downloading the update images one more time.
