  • 1.  Power 10 Host Console backspace not working

    Posted Wed March 19, 2025 10:12 AM
Anyone have experience with Power 10, BMC, ASMI, Host Console?

This is a small 9028-21A system that is managed via ASMI.  There is no HMC.

When using the ASMI Host Console, the backspace key does not work as expected.

The backspace key echoes ^? and does not remove any characters.  Using ctl/H does infact backspace and remove characters as is expected when using the backspace key.

    TERM is set to vt220.
    AIX 7.3.0-2446.
    No VIOS.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    Jim

    Hi.

Have you tried the following command:

You have to configure your terminal emulator to send a CTRL-H instead of a DEL.

Have you tried a different TERM setting like vt320? Just curious.. I know when we do a PowerDiags boot we use vt320 (I think I found it some IBM documentation a while ago) which seems to work better than other options. I know this is a completely different scenario but it's something to try if it's not too difficult making the change.

You can try a different terminal emulation ( start with a VT100 or a WY60 ) or set your backspace key with the stty command -
    stty erase ^H
