  • 1.  Possible SSSD on AIX platform?

    Hi AIX Experts,

    We are looking for a solution to reading AD user information for AIX authentication. Do you see possibility that SSSD be adopted onto AIX platform in near future?

    It is possible to use the AIX ldap-client to connect to AD:
    Active Directory (AD) on AIX : Step by step instructions to integrate Active Directory 2016 in AIX via LDAP protocol (ibm.com)

    Hi,

    sssd is a Linux only focussed project, there is no AIX support and will probably never be. The straight forward solution for AIX is Samba and Winbind though. See  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JevcJ1_vbf0 for a 30 minute workshop how to do that. For the Samba / Winbind solution you will also be able to get commercial enterprise level support.

    We looked in past to port SSSD on AIX but it is too Linux centric and very hard to port on AIX. 
    So there are no plan to invest in SSSD to port on AIX.

    Would it be possible to make an ipa agent. freeipa.org i think rhis is upstream from Redhat identity management.
    but the manual install is a bit long

    Hi Jim,

    I am not sure what are you asking.

    Freeipa is Linux specific and uses Linux service so porting it on AIX is not possible.

    It would be nice to have aix toolbox install off 
    dnf install ipa-client ipa-admintools
    Like on linux
