  • 1.  Official IBM support of SUDO on AIX

    Posted Mon November 20, 2023 01:54 PM
    Dear IBM,
we are missing SUDO advisories at IBM and official prebuilt bff packages.
Only official IBM SUDO are rpms and srpms  in AIX Toolbox.
What is official support for SUDO for AIX nowadays please?
Is it recommended to switch from ppc to rpms? Or can we officially use this source https://www.sudo.ws/getting/packages/ ?
Thank you in advance for clarification.

    IBM doesn't ship sudo.

Which if you want support, requires an extra option to your support contract.

None. If you buy the addon, it's best effort against the toolbox.

I recommend if you need sudo, get the one from the sudo site.

Otherwise, use SSH with keys instead of sudo. It's fully supported
    and requires no additional software.

It's best to use the rpm version of sudo on AIX, That is updated regularly via the AIX opensource repository and can be easily maintained using dnf.

    Hi Jan,

    I am not IBM, but:

    • you can install sudo packages from sudo.ws and ask the sudo's author Todd for help. There is no official support for the packages.
    • you buy "professional sudo with support" from the company where Todd works. It was Dell several years ago and the product was called "Privilege Manager for UNIX" or something similar. But there were several reorganizations there and I think the company is called something like OneIdentity now.
    • you can install sudo packages from this site and use the forum for any questions. In this case it is "best-effort" support as Russell wrote.
    • you can buy support for some RPM packages from IBM. I think sudo is in the list of the packages. Unfortunately I don't have more information about it right now. It is a new offering of IBM and they support only some of the packages. You can contact your business partner to get more information about the offering or you can contact me directly and I will get the information for you.
