I'm using the mosh-server on AIX, it works quite well. But I noticed that I don't show up as logged in when running who. I'm guessing /etc/utmp isn't being updated.

    According to Mosh documentation,

On platforms with utemptermosh-server maintains an entry in the utmp file to indicate its process ID, whether the session is connected, and the client's current IP address.

There is no utempter in AIX and hence it is not updating /etc/utmp.

Thanks for the explanation. While utempter seems handy, I'll note it comes with its own security issues. Unless there's an upswell of people using mosh to connect to AIX LPARs and insisting mosh-server update /etc/utmp, I think it's fine to leave it alone.
