  • 1.  Downloading packages from fixcentral via Proxy connection?

    Posted Fri March 03, 2023 01:35 AM

    Hi,

Maybe a stupid connection, but is there any way how to download packages (AIX Service packs etc) from Fixcentral directly to AIX machine, which

has proxy connection available, but only allowed connection is http/https (no sftp possibility :(   )

    Br,

    Hi Tommi,

    Directly to AIX? Definitely maybe.

I haven't done this on AIX, because AFAIK nobody has portend software like IcedTea-Web to AIX, which is most likely easier said than done, and I've decided that particular can of worms can remain closed on my part.

IIRC IcedTea is available on many FOSS platforms, but then again so are multitude of web browsers.

You'll have to download "IBM_DownloadDirector.jnlp" from Fix Central and copy the .jnlp file to the AIX in question.

The you open the "IBM_DownloadDirector.jnlp" on AIX using the IcedTea command line utilities, which will open a X11 window to your workstation.

IIRC the first gotcha is that you'll have to convince the IcedTea commad line utilities to use the said proxy.

And if you download fixes to an empty directory, which I suggest you do, then you'll have to configure the proxy for each download.

    Best regards,

    Esa

    Thanks Esa!

Dug this out a bit, and found out that there has been for ages SUMA on AIX, via which U can download at least TL / SP packages directly...

Havent never needed these direct downloads, so shame on me for this unawareness. :(

Not sure for any individual iFix etc downloads though, most probably those cannot be downloaded directly via SUMA..

You're right, SUMA is only for regular updates.

For iFixes, you can go directly to aix.software.ibm.com (ftp, http, and https)
    e.g.:
    ftp://aix.software.ibm.com/aix/efixes/security/openssl_fix33.tar
    http://aix.software.ibm.com/aix/efixes/security/openssl_fix33.tar
    https://aix.software.ibm.com/aix/efixes/security/openssl_fix33.tar

Note that if you're using ftp or http, you should be verifying the download with information you get from https.

You can browse the whole thing from https://aix.software.ibm.com/aix/efixes/ or https://aix.software.ibm.com/aix/ifixes/
