Satish, I asked for the lsnports output because I wanted to also see what the other fields were set to, for example the 'Fabric' field,
'a picture is worth a thousand words'
The fact that you have NPIV: 0 in PowerVC tells me that that the VIOS thinks that something is not set correctly somewhere despite you having free ports and
some are logged in, we need to narrow that down - given this forum is fairly public I understand your reticence to post pictures etc, I will (sometime shortly)
show you a few commands to look at the VIOS/NPIV layer and dive in a little deeper - but IBM Support can also assist you
I would also suggest that you do open a support call with IBM - our team are pretty good at looking at the logs - first for PowerVC and then
open one for IBM VIOS team to assist you - I do have a lot of experience with PowerVC/VIOS/NPIV, but this sounds like our support team can assist
you better than my emails with the full logs picture

Hi Dominic,
The FC port in VIO is showing free ports available in lsnports output. But the NPIV ready ports in POWERVC for the same VIO/Frame is showing as zero.

Satish - If I'm following you you are saying from the PowerVC 'Storage Connectivity Group' panel that 'FC Ports Ready" NPIV: 0 is what is showing ?
What does the lsnports on the VIOS show you for the fc ports you wish to use ?

Hi,
Just some points to check;
- RMC connection on VIOSes > all good?
- VIOS version on the newly added ones, is it the same as in your existing VIOSes?
- Might be even some "temporary" hick-up > Have you tried restarting PowerVC services?

Subject: Storage connectivity and NPIV capable VIO ports
Hi Experts,
We have a problem , where we are trying to add member VIOs to an existing storage connectivity group, as suggested by POWERVC. The VIO NPIV ready ports showing as '0' for the host , which we are trying to add to SCG. The ports are NPIV capable in VIO and we have provided storage from same templates available in POWERVC for this same host previously, without any issues. Now POWERVC prompts to add the Host VIOs to a SCG.
Need to understand the points : Why sudden refusal to add storage from same template, which was working previously. And why NPIV ready ports are showing '0' for this host, even though all NPIV ports are available in VIOS and are in "logged_in" state for the VM in question. Any suggestions in this regard would be helpful.
