With recent advances in Generative AI (GenAI) technology, AI is becoming more mainstream. Businesses are increasingly incorporating AI in their day-to-day workflows. Enterprise use cases like fraud detection, automated customer care, document summarization, etc., significantly impact businesses and their end customers. IBM Power Virtual Server customers running relational database workloads such as Oracle, SAP, and DB2 can take advantage of these capabilities to get more insights from their enterprise data.

Our IBM Power Virtual Server and watsonx demo highlights how a bank can use AI to accelerate their time to value by:

  • Using natural language to get fraud detection details
  • Identifying high-value clients to invite to an investment seminar

This demo is only one example of the many ways that AI (GenAI and Traditional AI) can help you:

  • Generate new insights from enterprise data
  • Provide better experiences for your customers
  • Drive more revenue for your business

Customers can infuse AI into their specific businesses by leveraging 2 leading IBM technologies – IBM Power Virtual Server and IBM watsonx.

IBM Power Virtual Server is an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offering that provides a secure and scalable server virtualization environment built upon the advanced RAS features and leading performance of the IBM Power Systems™ platform. IBM Power Virtual Server enables Power customers to migrate their workloads to a cloud operating model without giving up the benefits of a resilient and secure platform. It also enjoys significant infrastructure savings and access to over 200+ co-located IBM Cloud and 3rd party services, including watsonx.

IBM® watsonx.ai™ is part of the IBM watsonx™ AI and data platform, bringing together new generative AI (GenAI) capabilities powered by foundation models and traditional machine learning (ML) into a powerful studio spanning the AI lifecycle.

Figure 1. Depicts the high-level flow of the demo.

A bank employee (like a Fraud Investigator or a Marketing Manager) can input natural language statements (for example, in English) to gain insights from the information present in the core banking database running on Power. This eliminates the need for a businessperson to learn AI or programming (for example, SQL) skills!

Figure 2. Technical (architectural) view of the solution.

On the left side is the enterprise application (here, a core banking application) running on OpenShift in IBM Cloud-based IBM Power Virtual Server. A digital assistant is embedded into the core banking application to provide a friendly and intuitive user-interface layer chatbot to the bank's business personnel. This assistant app combines the user's natural language question with information on the core banking DB data schema as input to the AI model running in watsonx.ai.

On the right side is the watsonx.ai SaaS service running in the IBM Cloud. This service runs the Mixtral LLM AI Model. This model takes the assistant's input and creates an SQL statement that is passed back to the digital assistant app.

The digital assistant app uses the SQL statement from the AI model to query the data in the core banking application. It formats the result into a table displayed in the chatbot.
