IBM Food Trust™, built on the blockchain, benefits all network participants with a safer, smarter, and more sustainable food ecosystem. The digitization of transactions and data provides a more efficient way of working across the supply chain, including growers, processors, shippers, retailers, regulators, and consumers.

The solution provides authorized users with immediate access to actionable food supply chain data, from farm to store and ultimately the consumer. The complete history and current location of any individual food item, as well as accompanying information such as certifications, test data, and temperature data, are readily available in seconds once uploaded onto the blockchain.

A typical business scenario:

Various events of the journey from raw materials to shipping finished goods are captured in IBM’s Food Trust ledger. The events are captured from several supply chain management systems and need to be created in the ledger. These entries then provide the traceability of the source and journey of the raw materials.

How IBM App Connect can help:

Use IBM App Connect to connect IBM Food Trust to your other supply chain systems via the IBM Food Trust application in the catalog. App Connect supports V2.0 of the Food Trust API. Whenever raw materials proceed through the journey from source to endpoint, you can capture the changes in the Food Trust ledger. Changes from the supply chain systems like the purchase orders, despatch advice, receive advice, EPCIS events, master data items, and certificates can be created in the Food Trust ledger.

In order to connect to the IBM Food Trust ledger, you need to have the URL of the IBM Food Trust organization, the API key, and the Organization ID.

Design your flow to integrate your supply chain systems to capture the events into the Food Trust ledger. On invocation of the flow, the events are created in the ledger and the process map of the journey of the raw material from the source to the destination can be viewed on the IBM Food Trust trace utility.

As this post demonstrates, App Connect provides you with an easy way to integrate your data sources with the IBM Food Trust Blockchain network.
