The IBM Integration Bus is installed via the Installation Manager. If you are unable to use the graphical user interface, you can use the console and/or the web mode available in the Installation Manager to install the latest IIB Toolkit fixpack.

Here is an example on how to install a fixpack using the console mode. In this example we are upgrading IIB Toolkit from 9.0.0.9 to 9.0.0.10:

  • Navigate to the Installation Manager directory and move into the eclipse/tools directory. Launch the “console mode” by executing: imcl.exe -c.

C:\IBM\Installation Manager\eclipse\tools>imcl.exe -c

If you have any issues while using the Installation Manager in console mode, do the following:

  1. Edit the imcl.ini file located in eclipse\tools directory,
  2. Add the following parameter to the ini file: -Dcic.supports.console.mode=true
  3. Save the file and then start the Installation Manager in console mode

If you want to upgrade the IIB Toolkit using the web mode, do the following:

  1. Navigate to the Installation Manager directory and move into the eclipse/web directory.
  2. Edit the ibmim-web.ini file and add the following parameter to the file: -Dcic.suppress.web.ui.checks=true
  3. Save the file.
  • Launch the “web mode” by executing ibmim-web.exe.

C:\IBM\Installation Manager\eclipse\web>ibmim-web.exe

  • This command will return the URL that you need to use to start the Installation Manager via the web.
  • Open a browser and go the URL returned by ibmim-web.exe. Notice that IM web interface looks just like the graphical user interface with the same menu options. You can now follow the same steps to upgrade IIB Toolkit to the latest fixpack as you would using the GUI.

You can also use the console mode to record a response file to later update the IIB Toolkit silently. To record a response file, you need to start the console mode using the – record parameter:
imcl.exe -c -record

At this point we are still using the repository.config from the previous example: C:\9.0.0-IIT-WINIA32-FP0010\IIT9000_90010\repository.config

C:\IBM\Installation Manager\eclipse\tools>imcl.exe -c -record c:\response.xml

Once the installation is completed successfully, a response.xml file will be created with the options selected during the installation. The response will look something like this:

Now you can launch the Installation Manager with the -silent and -input parameters using the response file created
