  • 1.  cannot configure download directory for Aspera Connect on Linux

    Posted Mon December 11, 2023 10:29 AM
My Aspera Connect could run on linux, but it appears that I could not find the preference settings on the aspera connect application icon. While trying to  launch it from the command line, it showed the error messages shown above. The files I would like to download with Aspera connect are extremely large, so I prefer to set the download directory. Despite I have tried many ways, I still have not figured out how to set the download directory.
I tried to change the default download directory of my brower, tried to find the preference interface in vain, tried to launch the configuring interface with command line  and failed again.
I wonder if anyone has any ideas about this situation?
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi Owen,

I was able to reproduce the command line error when launching Connect on my Linux box using Connect 4.2.7. I'll take this back to the team so we can investigate further.

I noticed that Connect still runs though and only outputs those errors when Connect is quit. Do you see the same behavior? You mentioned you can still run Connect on your machine so I suspect this is the case.

It probably depends on the desktop environment you are using (I am using KDE Plasma) but if you right-click on the Connect icon in the taskbar you should see an option to open the Preferences window.

Alternatively, you can use the Ctrl+P keyboard shortcut to open the Preferences window. If you have the Activity window open then doing the Ctrl+P shortcut should do the trick.

I am also seeing an issue where the "hamburger" menu icon is missing from the Activity window. You may still have access to it if you hover over the general area. For example, this is what I see:

    Hope that helps.

    Hi David,

Thank you so much!!!! Thanks for your kindness and patient guidance!

I resolved the problem with "ctrl+p". It also works when the mouse hovers over the missing menu icon. But right-clicking the Connect icon on the taskbar could not display the option to open the preference interface.

It was great to have your help to resolve this problem. You make my day today.

    Thanks again.

    Best wishes!

    Owen
