Meet John Carr, a highly experienced professional with more than 30 years of experience in IT industry, and a 2024 IBM Champion in the Automation category. He is currently employed as a Principal Program Manager for Middleware Services at TxMQ, Inc. John boasts a wealth of experience in high-volume message processing, transformation, and enrichment using IBM MQ on IBM i, z/OS, and distributed systems, as well as in digital transformation initiatives such as App Connect Enterprise and z/OS Connect. He takes great pride in advocating for IBM products, particularly IBM MQ, which he has come to admire for its versatility and continuous learning opportunities across various platforms and configurations.
In terms of advocacy, John finds public speaking and presentations to be particularly engaging. Nevertheless, he also actively participates in blogs and communities, facilitating discussions and sharing his extensive skills and knowledge with others.
John's journey to becoming an IBM Champion has been marked by his contributions of articles and white-papers on IBM MQ, z/OS Connect, and App Connect Enterprise, as well as the creation of marketing handouts for App Connect Enterprise at conferences. Additionally, he had the honour of being a guest on Laticia Carrow's TishTechTalks in July 2023, where he discussed his career on the mainframe, IBM MQ, and a myriad of other topics.
Prior to his current role, John served as an adjunct professor at a community college for five years, teaching Java programming. Among his most memorable achievements is having played a crucial part in placing students in fulfilling IT positions. This has given him immense satisfaction, knowing that he has contributed to the launch of their IT careers.
Should he not be involved in technology, John would wholeheartedly embrace the opportunity to serve as the Chancellor of a university in Secunderabad, India. More specifically, he would like to be based at Sainikpuri colony, near The Fat Cat Café!
