WxPackageCompatibilityAnalyzer - Plan & Execute webMethods Integration Modernization Better

By Kalpshekhar Gupta posted 28 days ago

Why?

Over the decades, many enterprises have successfully streamlined and automated their business processes by integrating applications with webMethods Integration Servers. In the recent years, the growing adoption of multi-cloud and hybrid environments has increased the need for more flexible and advanced integration capabilities.

To meet these demands of integration modernization, webMethods has introduced a range of new features, including Develop Anywhere, Deploy Anywhere, a Central Control Plane, support for Multi-Cloud and Hybrid Architectures, and Containerized Runtimes. These features are made possible through the new webMethods Edge and Cloud runtimes in conjunction with webMethods.io Integration.

How to Get Started?

So, how do you begin leveraging these new features? The journey begins with a crucial first step: analyzing your existing webMethods Integration Server packages. This analysis will help you understand which functionalities will transition seamlessly and which may require adjustments.

For instance:

Deprecated services: Some built-in services in webMethods Integration Server are no longer available in webMethods Edge and Cloud runtimes.

Implementation nuances: Certain implementations, like reading a file directly from the file system, may need rethinking. Previously, you could access a file using its path in webMethods Integration Server, but with the webMethods Edge runtime operating within a Docker container, you will need mounted volumes to access files. In contrast, this isn’t possible at all with the webMethods Cloud runtime because you don’t have access to the underlying filesystem.

The Solution

To help you conduct a thorough analysis and better plan your migration process, we have developed WxPackageCompatibilityAnalyzer - an open-source tool designed to help you identify, analyze, and understand these compatibility issues.
