Introducing Instana Intelligent Actions

By Arthur De Magalhaes posted Tue May 21, 2024 02:00 PM

The recent ability to generate dynamic content via large language models received a massive adoption from end users by catering to scenarios such as text summarization, email creation and generic Q/As.

But what about the observability and IT operations domain? Could this technology finally fulfill the promises of automated incident remediation (AIR)?  This blog will outline the exciting Instana innovations we’re announcing at Think 2024 to harvest the power of generative AI!

We have injected generative AI into key areas of the incident lifecycle:

  • Probable Root Cause – an advanced algorithm that crawls through millions of datapoints and finds the component that is causing the root problem of an incident.  This saves SREs hours of debugging through endless traces and logs.
  • Prescription Generation – an extensive set of prescriptions generated for events in the most common domains such as Kubernetes, Host, JVM, Kafka, Elasticsearch and Docker.
  • Automation Generation – a mixture of Ansible Playbooks and Bash scripts that automate various activities such as cordoning a Kubernetes Node, calculating the list of top CPU consumers for a given host or fetching current deadlocked threads within a JVM.
  • Incident Summarization – a set of genAI-based summaries at the top of the incident which covers the affected applications/services, the notifications sent out and information about the core anomaly.
  • Enhanced AI recommendation engines – within Instana we have a set of advanced AI engines which match each incident to the best matches within our extensible and hybrid automation catalog:

These capabilities are available today as a technology preview for any Instana SaaS customer.  You can see it in action in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zc2Y0WdhCKU

You can also let us know if you want to be amongst the first set of users to try out our upcoming natural language interaction components, such as being able to ask watsonx for new prescription & automation generation as well as question pertaining to an incident.
