In the May PTF release of Z Common Data Provider, which is now a component of IBM Z Operational Log and Data Analytics, you can create a policy in the Configuration Tool to stream data to Apache Kafka through Data Collector.

For anyone who doesn't know IBM Z Operational Log and Data Analytics much, IBM Z Operational Log and Data Analytics can accelerate hybrid incident identification with near real-time operational analytics. It streams near real-time IBM Z operational data with the help of Z Common Data Provider to third-party enterprise analytics platforms or to the included operational data analysis platform, or both. It also provides included insights to help quickly visualize and search operational data to reduce the mean time to identify the cause of operational issues. The component Z Common Data Provider is able to access IT operational data, both structured and unstructured, from z/OS systems, transform it to a consumable format, and stream it to the analytics platform. It can provide a near real-time data feed of z/OS operational data, like System Management Facilities (SMF) data and z/OS log data to your analytics platform.

Come back to this new feature, creating a policy for streaming data to Apache Kafka through Data Collector. Now an interactive video with a step-to-step guide is available! You can watch and try for yourself with this feature in our video. Specifically, in this scenario, you will create a policy that streams SMF and log data to Apache Kafka through Data Collector. To do that, you will configure data resources and Kafka successively. Now, try it out for yourself. Click the picture and it will take you to the video page.
