Announcing IBM Db2 Big SQL 7.1 on Cloudera’s CDP Private Cloud Base

Product news:

Excited to announce the immediate availability of IBM Db2 Big SQL v7.1 on the latest Cloudera platform - Cloudera Data Platform Private Cloud Base (CDP PvC Base) v7.1.3

IBM Db2 Big SQL, an advanced SQL engine on Hadoop, has been making strides with the fast-evolving open source ecosystem by supercharging your analytical workloads on data lakes. The core capabilities of Big SQL focusses on data virtualization, ANSI SQL compatibility, concurrency, scalability, performance, and of course enterprise-grade security/governance, making it a desirable query engine to seek insights from Big Data stored in Hadoop as well as extend across disparate data sources for enriched analytics.

Here's a quick look at what's new in this release:

  • Integration with all new Cloudera Data Platform Private Cloud Base (production ready) platform brings the best of legacy platforms from both Cloudera and Hortonworks along with new features and enhancements across the stack. Db2 Big SQL integrates with the platform to provide a stable gateway for business users, data engineers, or data scientist to access data without the need to rewrite applications with changing platforms.
  • With migration support from legacy platforms, IBM customers can modernize their big data stack while availing the latest enhancements introduced in various components.
  • Apache Ranger policies, that were defined for Hive tables, can be seamlessly passed through to Big SQL which reduces the overhead of re-creating Ranger policies for Big SQL tables separately. Granular security is now available to enhance centralized governance and security for not only platform data but also federated data sources.
  • Big SQL now supports ACID for Hive tables. Over the years, Big Data has been evolving from write once read many times paradigm to enabling database concepts on Big Data which supports changing schema and data. With this new ACID capability, Big SQL now supports inserts and updates to data and expands the use cases to include slow changing dimensions, streaming data and data restatement.

Journey to latest Cloudera platform CDP

If you are using HDP or CDH and looking to move to CDP, we can do a workshop on Journey to CDP. Please reach out to us and we can help coordinate a workshop that provides information on what the path forward from legacy platforms looks like and also help you and execute the migration.

Take Db2 Big SQL to any Cloud of your choice

Big SQL is now available in a containerized format on Cloud Pak for Data. This stand-alone format of Big SQL works against remote Hadoop clusters or object stores. When you have your data on object stores in IBM Cloud, AWS, Azure or GCP, you can still continue using Big SQL in this new format that can launch multiple instances and also scale up/down based on your workload needs. Connect with us for more information.

We are 100% committed to building a long-lasting relationship with all of our customers. Do reach out to us with your questions and feedback. We would love to hear from you.
