The Technical Preview of the Db2 Data Management console is an early look at were we are taking the Data Server Manager console in the future. It is not yet a full offering. There are a number of specific known limitations you should be aware of. You can post comments on these limitations in this thread.

I don' see the "Reports" listed in the known limitations list.

On DSM we had useful reports,  Are they in the road-map for future releases ?

I am glad to hear that DSM reports are useful for you. May you be more specific on which particular reports do you use mostly? This will help us better understand the scenario and prioritize the work in DMC roadmap to address them early.

    Hi Su,

We used all of them, db and dbm cfg to keep track of db settings changes. (once a month)
but the ones we mostly used where Overview , Top SQL and Workload Manager

    Thanks

Thanks Samuel for feedback! This information is helpful for us to prioritize the different reports. What's the audience for these reports and how it helps you in your daily work?

    Hi Su,

the audience are DBAs supporting the environment.
We have more than 30 DBAs supporting the environment,  in different 3 main teams.
    1. Physical DBAs  - focused on service availability.  keep db2 system running and available.  (installation, configuration,  bkups.  etc... ) ,  This team uses the db-cfg and dbm-cfg reports.

    2. Logical DBAs - focused in application and database performance ,
    3. Application DBAs - dbas directly related to application business needs,  which develops queries , SPs , etc for application usage.

So , Logical DBas support uses the performance reports to identify possible bottlenecks,   and reach out to application team;DBAs to solve them.

    -------------
Now,  one report that is still missing on DSM,  and which would be a GREAT addition on DMC  is BACKUP history report, for all montiored DBs.

It would be wonderful to have something specific for Backups.  a central panel would be even better,  that shows the status for all dbs being monitored,  related to backup healthy.
Something to aim to answer following questions:

    1. Any recent backup failed to execute recently ?
    2. Any db that did not take a backup recently ?  In othe words,  do I have a recent "good" backup  ?  ("recent" is a relative term,  so this should be parametrized )
    3. Where are the backups being taken..   DISK,  which path,   or TSM (which management class).

    4. Report to retrieve latest backup information for a particular DB (having all these details) , and/or for all databases being monitored.

It would be wonderful if DMC caputerd all these kind of information,  and save them into the repository.
so,  we could have a central place to look if any backup failed,  etc...  and so on ...

    hi Samuel,

DMC has a monitor function named "Utility event monitor". DB backup information is included in this function.

Please note that "Utility event monitor" is disabled by default. To enable it, please go to monitor profile configuration page and check it.

    Hi KAI

Nice..  good to know.   This will be usuful.

But,  the main-panel request still stands.    One central dashboard where we could see the backup information for all databases being monitored would be really awesome.

Options to filter the dbs by using TAGS,  (I hope you still have TAGS , DSM had them).

and option to see bkp information in a specific period of time..   (just like the other views where you cant set custom time frames).

and some graphs showing informations like sucessfull backup x failed backups or,,   DBs that did not have backup taken at all, in the time frame selected.

    Please, consider something like this.

    Regards

    Hi.

I see it is planned to monitor DB2 z in future updates.

Is there any plan to monitor Federated Databases in future updates? It seems DB2 PE (Performance Expert) used to have that future that doesn't exists in DSM.  I don't see that feature in DMC as well for know.

That's a request from a big customer from Brazil - Bradesco Bank.

    Tanks.

    Hi Felipe,

Could you please confirm what does Federated databases mean specifically, such as mysql, oracle, pgsql, etc?

    Hi, Li.

    Thanks for your response.

This customer in special would like to monitor federated tables from DB2 z/OS.

    Tks

    Hi Li,

We also run a federated DB2z-to-Db2 [Windows Server] environment and monitoring of the federated objects, as well as monitoring of DB2z alongside Db2 [Win], in a consolidated system is highly desired.

    Thanks, Su.

But will DMC monitor DB2 z/OS directly or will it also monitor via a federation?

    Thanks

    Felipe

My understanding is that DMC should be able to monitor Db2 z/OS database without federation.
