Here are some of the most frequently asked questions. Please post any additional questions you have in the discussion area.
What does the new Db2 Data Management Console cost?
A: There is no charge or up sell cost for any of the functions and features that are part of the Db2 Data Management Console. It is available as a free download. Support is provide for anyone with a valid Db2 license entitlement
What are the major differences between Data Server Manager 2.1.5 and the Db2 Data Management Console 3.1?
A: The differences go well beyond just a new look and feel for the console. The new console is built on a new microservices architecture that provides open API access to every part of the user interface. This is more than just a pretty face, it is a new way to interact and build on the console. For more information see the
Db2 Data Management Console community page blog.
Do I have to rip out my current Data Server Manager installation to use the new Db2 Data Management Console?
A: No there is an upgrade path from 2.1.5 to Version 3.1. You can choose an inplace upgrade or you can make a copy of your current Db2 Data Management Console 2.1.5 installation and then upgrade it without disrupting your Data Server Manager production system. For more information refer to DMC documentation.
On what operating systems can I install the Db2 Data Management Console service?
A: Today you can install on Windows, Linux and MacOS. AIX support was added in Version 3.1.1.0.
What versions of Db2 are supported?
For Db2 for Linux, UNIX and Windows Versions 10.5.4, 11.1 and 11.5 are supported. You can also connect Db2 on Cloud, Db2 Warehouse on Cloud, IIAS appliance, Db2 & Db2 Warehouse running on Cloud Pak for Data or Red Hat OpenShift, and monitor and manage these databases from a single DMC.
Are the system requirements for the new Db2 Data Management Console changing from Data Server Manager?
We have designed the new console to stay as close as possible to the existing Data Server Manager requirements. However you may find that you use about 20-25% more storage using the same monitoring configuration you have today. We now collect history for storage usage as well as currently running statements by default. We also expect that due to code consolidation you can expect to require less memory for the same number of monitored databases than was required with Data Server Manager. Your individual results may vary depending on your configured monitoring options.
Does the new Db2 Data Management Console do everything that Data Server Manager does today?
We plan to eventually support most of the capabilities that Data Server Manager supports today. The initial GA will support Monitoring, Alerts, Object management and security, running and SQL and visualizing SQL access plans. In one of the recent releases we also added support for Jobs and Monitoring Reports. For a full picture of the plan please refer to the
Db2 Data Management console
roadmap
.
Can I still use Data Server Manager 2.1.5 now that the Db2 Data Management Console is available?
A: You can still use Data Server Manager 2.1.5, but support will no longer be provided after April 30th, 2021.
What happened to the Db2 Performance Management Offering?
A: The Performance Management Offering reached End of Marketing with Db2 Version 11.5. It used to be the path to upgrade your Db2 Enterprise or Workgroup editions to allow them to use the Enterprise features of Data Server Manager. With both the Db2 Version 11.5 Advanced and Standard editions you can use all the Data Server Manager 2.1.5 Enterprise features.

Hi Hendrik, you can connect to Db2 for z/OS. Go to Connection Profile >> under connection type select Db2 for z/OS. There is a checkbox "Use SSL" to establish a secure connection.
Please note that DMC has very limited support for z/OS connections.

Yes, have a look at the roadmap link at the end of the FAQ. SNMP and email support are planned for our first update. You can currently access through through RESTful service calls. Thanks for the question and the interest!
