Installing the Db2 Data Management Console Technical Preview

You can install and configure the IBM Db2 Data Management Console using either a command line script installer or a user interface installer.

Command Line Script based installation
To set up IBM Db2 Data Management Console with the default settings extract the product archive and run the setup program as follows:
  1. Run the setup program. The setup program is stored in the setup_directory/ibm-datamgmtconsole directory where you extracted the product. For example, on Windows, the setup script file can be found under the following folder: C:\Console\ibm-datamgmtconsole\setup.bat
    • Windows: Run the setup_directory\ibm-datamgmtconsole-3.1.0-tech-preview-win\ibm-datamgmtconsole\setup.bat file as a user with Administrator privileges.
    • Linux: Run the setup_directory/ibm-datamgmtconsole/setup.sh file as a user ID with write access to the setup_directory directory.
    • Mac: Run the setup_directory/ibm-datamgmtconsole/setup.sh file as a user ID with write access to the setup_directory directory.
  1. Respond to the setup program prompts:  
  • License agreement
  • Select to indicate that you have read the license text and that you accept its terms.
  • User
  • The user ID is specific to the product and is independent of operating system user IDs. Click Enter to the next page.
  • Password
  • The password for the default administrator user ID.
  • HTTP access
  • The port that is used to access the IBM Db2 Data Management Console web console from a web browser.
  • HTTPS access
  • The secure port that is used to access the IBM Db2 Data Management Console web console from a web browser. 
 
Setup the User Interface installer program.   
    • Windows: Double-click on the ibm-datamgmtconsole-3.1.0-tech-preview-webinstall-win.exe file. Specify an install location and click Next to copy the files into the specified directory. Click Finish to close the install wizard.
    • Linux: Extract the file ibm-datamgmtconsole-3.1.0-tech-preview-webinstall-linux.tar.gz into any directory.
    • Mac: Double-click on the ibm-datamgmtconsole-3.1.0-tech-preview-webinstall-mac.dmg file. In the new “IBM Db2 Data Management Console” window, drag the icon for the IBM Db2 Data Management Console into the Applications folder. Close the new “IBM Db2 Data Management Console” window.
Run the User Interface Installer  
    • Windows: To launch the UI installer, double-click on the IBM Db2 Data Management Console icon on the desktop or click on the entry in the Start menu. 
    • Linux: Launch a terminal window and go to the directory in which you extracted the tar.gz file. Run ./ibm-dataserver-management-console from the ibm-dataserver-management-console-3.1.0 directory.
    • Mac: In the Applications folder, double-click on the entry for IBM Db2 Data Management Console. 

Running the User Interface Installer

    • License Agreement: Click the checkbox to accept the license agreement and click Continue.
    • User: Specify a user ID and password. The user ID is specific to the product and is independent of operating system user IDs. Click Continue to go to the next page.
    • Ports: Configure the HTTP and HTTPS ports that are used to access the IBM Db2 Data Management Console from a web browser. Click Continue to go to the next page.
    • Install: The installer will configure IBM Db2 Data Management Console with the provided values and show the output in the window. The Continue button will be enabled once the installation is complete and the server is started. If errors occur during the installation, a pop-up window will be shown, and the error is displayed in the output window.
    • Summary: The last page shows the URLs of the IBM Db2 Data Management Console. Click on either URL to open the application in the default web browser. Bookmark the URLs to access IBM Db2 Data Management Console later.
Starting, stopping and reconfiguring IBM Db2 Data Management Console

To start, stop or reconfigure the console, launch the IBM Db2 Data Management console program again. The wizard will show the available options to start or stop the server depending on the server state. To reconfigure the server, select the option “Reconfigure console”.

 

To start or stop the server from the command line after installing the product through the UI, navigate to the following install locations:

Windows:

Location: “<Install directory>/resources/bin/bin” (default: “C:\Program Files\IBM Db2 Data Management Console/resources/bin/bin”)
Start: start.bat

Stop: stop.bat

Linux
Location: “<extract_directory>/ibm-dataserver-management-console-3.1.0/resources/bin/bin”
Start: startup.sh
Stop: stop.sh

Mac:
Location: ”/Applications/IBM Db2 Data Management Console.app/Contents/Resources/bin/bin”
Start: startup.sh
Stop: stop.sh

 

Uninstall

To uninstall the product, follow these steps.

  1. Stop the IBM Db2 Data Management Console from the UI or the command line (see steps above).
  2. Windows: Launch “Add or remove programs”. Select IBM Db2 Data Management Console and click Uninstall. Follow the steps in the wizard to remove the product.
    Linux: Remove the directory in which the tar.gz was extracted.
    Mac: Open the Application Right-click on IBM Db2 Data Management Console and select “Move to Trash” to remove the program.

Add pure scale database connection with Initialize pure scale option failing with internal error, how should we add pure scale database in connection profile?

Rajesh thanks for your feedback. We just released the GA version of the new console 3.1 today. The setup script now prompts for the active ports so there is no conflict with older DSM installation. Please try it out and keep the feedback coming!

I tried Installing the tool in Linux and it uses the same port of DSM. It will be great if a different port no. be used as default for reducing the conflict.  The setup script stops as the port was used by DSM already. Think if the DSM was stopped and if we try installing DMC then there will be port conflict.
