  • IBM and The Weather Company Divestiture

    Hi everyone. On 8/23/23 the announcement came from IBM that Francisco Partners will acquire The Weather Company and its weather assets. The deal is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2024, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. 

    IBM will retain its sustainability software business, including Environmental Intelligence Suite (EIS), to help clients gain climate and weather insights that can anticipate disruptive environmental conditions, proactively manage risk, and build sustainable operations. The assets being acquired by Francisco Partners will be the Weather Data API and Aviation business. 

    We will continue to partner with The Weather Company as the Weather Data APIs are a strategic part of EIS. We will continue our efforts to offer these valuable services to customers. EIS's mission includes helping customers with important use cases including Vegetation Management, Climate Risk Management, Outage Prediction, Above Ground Biomass for Carbon Sequestration, and Disaster Monitoring for Flood and Wildfire.
