Hi - this is my first post, so apologies if this does not land in the right area...

I am looking for options on gaining access to a TSO account.  I have researched some options and everything I am seeing is a bit out of my budget.

I lost my job (26+ years) after a reorg, and looking to do some COBOL freelance work.  Hoping to get access to an account with access to ISPF and a CICS region.

    Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thank you!!

Hi Jim.  There are no wrong places to land, so you are good.  ;->

As you've discovered it is not as easy to get your hands on z/OS systems as it is other operating systems.  For z/OS I suggest you look at Z trials (https://www.ibm.com/it-infrastructure/z/resources/trial).  These are free, self-provisioned trials.  Some of these include COBOL compilers.  It's an emulated environment but it should be a place for you to get started at least.

If you'd like to see Linux I suggest you look at the LinuxONE Community Cloud (https://developer.ibm.com/linuxone/).

    Hope this helps.

    Appreciate the suggestion Matthew!

There is currently a system interruption, and new trial requests will not be processed until after 12/25.  It states access is granted for 3 days, am looking for more of a long term solution so will see if there are options after the initial trial period.

Thanks again for the information - Happy Holidays!

    - Jim

    Hi Jim.
I am looking for exactly the same thing. I have been a mainframer (Application) for 30 years and had to switch roles because of a re-org. I am looking to keep my skills sharp and do some freelance when ready. Let me know if you come across anything.

Maybe there is a community or we can start a community where expenses can be shared. Where did you find chargeable services? I like to see what type of $$$ do we need to start with.

    Thanks
