  • 1.  YUM on AIX 7.3 offline

    Posted Mon December 30, 2024 11:19 AM

    Hello everyone,

I have a problem when i try to install yum on AIX 7.3 offline, below youn can find the step and more details:

    • I start from new installation lpar AIX 7.3, for internal policy this LPAR is offline "no internet access".
    • I checked the RPM version and we have on board RPM version 4.18.1.
    • I downloads the last yum_bundle_v6.tar 2020-12-04 09:02.
    • I don't find any error during the installation.
    • When i check the version of YUM i find this error:

There was a problem importing one of the Python modules
required to run yum. The error leading to this problem was:

       No module named rpm

Please install a package which provides this module, or
verify that the module is installed correctly.

It's possible that the above module doesn't match the
current version of Python, which is:
    2.7.10 (default, Jun 22 2016, 05:57:59) [C]

I checked the step of YUM installation and all python packages have been installed.

AIX 7.3 does not support yum. Instead, you should install and use DNF. https://community.ibm.com/community/user/power/blogs/sangamesh-mallayya1/2022/01/10/aix-migration-with-dnf#:~:text=AIX%207.3%20Release%20Notes%20%2D%20YUM%20and,must%20be%20used%20to%20manage%20RPM%20packages.

If you can start with a fresh AIX build, then the Cloud Ready AIX v7.3 download from ESS includes DNF, although not in the default search path (need to add /opt/freeware/bin or create a symbolic link).

Another good way is to download the AIX Toolbox for Linux GZ bundle from ESS & run the easy install.
    https://community.ibm.com/community/user/power/blogs/sangamesh-mallayya1/2022/02/09/creating-local-repo-with-dnf-and-aix-toolbox-media?utm_source=ibm_developer&utm_content=in_content_link&utm_id=tutorials_awb-configuring-dnf-create-local-repos-ibm-aix&CommunityKey=10c1d831-47ee-4d92-a138-b03f7896f7c9
This will also give you thwe latest DNF repo locally, which you can then share to other AIX systems.
