we are able to connect oracle database using ODBC and data source name in Database interface designer in Windows.

So we need to deploy this MDQ and mmc to unix so can someone help us how to configure database connection in unix.

As per my understanding we need to add entries in odbc.ini in odbc_drivers directory.

Suppose we need to use oracle adapter instead of ODBC then we need to install oracle client in unix. Please confirm if our understanding is correct.

Also we need to know which adapter we should use ,is using ORACLE adapter is the best practice instead of using ODBC adapter?

    Thanks

    Santanu

If you decide to use the Oracle adapter in Unix, then you must also use the Oracle adapter in Windows (and install a Windows Oracle client) so that the Typetrees are imported correctly using the Database Interface Designer.

As far as I know, the Oracle adapter is the more efficient adapter.  ODBC adds another layer and would in theory not give as good performance as the Oracle adapter.

    Thank you.
