-how do I display (stack) multiple input and output cards at the same time?

-I tried creating a temp copy of output card 1 to drag rules around and wasn't able to do so. Has that functionality gone away?

-Somehow I lost the composition view and can't get it back. Any help?

the composition view is still in the navigator (lower left corner of the Design Studio window), you have the choice between "structure" (the former "list" view) and "composition

    • the organization for cards is a bit different, they are no longer stacked as they used to be. You need to go to the Map Preferences to specify how many cards you want to display at the same time. This will also allow you to drag/drop from one to the other.

    Hope it helps...

you can also see mutliptle cards, just by double clikcing on the cards in the list view.

    2. For Composition view, go to window->show view and select composistion. This will display composition view.

I have been using merc 6.7, converted to WTX 8.1, and now we upgraded to 8.2

Learning just the Design Studio without any of the "help" features it is not fun. These are my questions:

    1) When you said: you can also see mutliptle cards, just by double clikcing on the cards in the list view

What is the list view? and where to find it?
I know the "outline", the composition, but don't know what the "list view" is.

I used to make the temp card to drag and drop fields from the previous output card to the 2nd card..and so on. Can't do that anymore. I tried to drag field from output card 1 to output card 2 field: like:
    string:out2 = field1:out1 + field2:out1
I can drag "field1:out1" to string:out2 field, but when I added "+" sign, I can't drag the 2nd field to that same field.

Would you please advise what I can do in this situation? Is there a manual somewhere to read for the "basic" drag and drop mapping with WTX 8.2.

    2) I used to be able to right click on the field to "open type tree". I did this but don't see type tree at all. It must be hidden somewhere, please help me seeing it.

    I appreciate all your helps.

    Thanks.

I did get a patch from IBM so that I can double-click on a map or type tree in Windows Explorer and have the Design Studio automatically open. Previously, I received an Eclipse error. The file name is:
WIN-8203-61-PMR57685,122,000-WTX27826-com.ibm.websphere.dtx.ui.te.zip in case anyone chooses to request it from IBM Support.

What was the problem to lead you to get the patch from IBM?

Do you know if IBM has any "read me" document on this upgrade of WTX 8.2? If so, where do they put it, or what do they call it?

Wouldn't it always work when you double click on map or type tree to open?

I don't see any type designer interface anymore. I was in the map, right click on the field to "open type tree", I can't see the type tree opened at all. Do you know where it is hidden?
Are there patches that IBM issues to fix for this 8.2 version?

    Thanks.

As I implied above, the right-click on card header and click on "Open type tree" doesn't work for me either. I open type trees by using the menus, File->Open File.

    Release Notes are at http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=2320&uid=swg27008337.

The document, "What's New", 1030.pdf, is in C:\docs\en\whats_new.

The readme.txt, readme_doc.txt, readme_mgmttools.txt, & readme_tmgr.txt files are located in C:\IBM\WebSphere Transformation Extender 8.2. Only the TMgr file contains anything other than the most basic install info like "1) Run setup.exe, 2) Follow the instructions in the installation program.)

I found out that in order to use "open type tree" from the map (either from or to card), you have to have "project", in that project, there is Tree folder. You import type tree there, then you can use this "open type tree" option.

Old way, you open individual map, and can open type tree from there. This option does not work.

You can right click on to "open type tree" from map ONLY when you are using the Project and having type tree imported into that project. Then it will open on a separate tab.

You should be able to copy an output type, select the rule cell on a subsequent output card and paste. Much easier than having to make a temp copy.

Composition is a view. If it disappears, use Window->Show View to get it back.
I've been using this product since Mercator 1.4.2 so weathered the drastic change to both the UI and Design Studio functionality moving to 2.x which I think was a much more drastic change than moving to the Eclipse environment. Even if you don't use WTX with other products in the WebSphere family (where moving WTX to the Eclipse platform is a definite plus), I think, once you get used to this environment, you'll find the pluses outweigh the minuses of having to get used to a new way of working. For example, you can leave the build errors view open as you navigate through all the levels of your functional maps. You no longer need to open the .mme file in an editor to view it as you navigate thru your maps to fix the errors.

I don't like that it takes forever to load the interface, took 30 seconds more to load a simple map and so far many things seem convoluted compared to the past. So far I see a lot of warts but the old version had a few too.

So, I'll continue to review the update. The hard thing is that this new version is so different from older versions that there will be a learning curve. Seems like it's a good opportunity to look at what else is available on the market. Then again I may recommend migrating to 8.0 or 8.1 for now.

I am not sure what you meant by "path1", "path2". Are you talking about card1, card2?

Do you understand my question about temporary card. Take the output card1, make a temporary card so you can drag as many fields as you want to output card2 rule...
So you have one field, but you want to concatenate many fields from output card1, this does not work well in WTX 8.2

If you know a better way, please advise.

    Thanks.
