  • 1.  Windows 10 Web Filtering

    Posted Wed October 23, 2019 11:56 AM
I am trying to configure web filtering on Windows 10 but appear to be missing something.

At first after going through all of the MDM settings and not finding any setting, I assumed it wasn't supported on Windows 10 but I found this in the device details:

Does anyone have any ideas on how to set up web filtering on Windows 10?

    Thanks

    Hi Jack,

You are correct, there is no way to do web filtering using MDM policies only.

However, if you use "MaaS360 Secure Browser" for browsing websites within your organization then you can use Web filtering policies. The secure browser has multiple security related functionalities including URL filtering. The screenshot that you have attached shows the summary of Browsing history of the web filtering policy (compliance/attempted violations etc.) of a given device.

I'm attaching the KC page here:

    Hi Anang,

Thank you for replying and confirming.

Are you able to advise how the secure browser is distributed to Windows devices?

I know from iOS and Android we can just get the APK (or via VPP) and push it out using the catalog. Is the Windows 10 Secure Browser an exe or msi that needs distributing?

    Thanks

    Hi Jack,

If you have used Secure Browser on iOS/android, I am guessing that you have already enabled Browser settings and persona policies from MaaS portal.

Having said that, Win 10 Secure Browser is UWP app, to install that you can open the MaaS app and click on the Secure Browser icon. This will take you to couple of obvious screens and Secure Browser will get installed on that machine in some time.

In principle, this can also be installed using MaaS360 App catalog but I don't think the appx file (installer type of Win 10 Secure Browser) is publicly available as of now by any workflows. We will check internally if we can make it available externally, in the meantime you can use the above approach to install it on any device.

Please try it out and let me know how it goes!

    Thanks,
    Anang
