Why isn't SPSS 27 opening on my MacBook?

  • 1.  Why isn't SPSS 27 opening on my MacBook?

    Posted Fri October 30, 2020 11:33 AM

I recently downloaded SPSS statistics 27 on my MacBook Pro OS Catalina version 10.15.5. The installation process went smoothly however when I try to open the software, an error message appears saying "SPSS quit unexpectedly". When I click "reopen", a problem report appears. I don't understand the problem... I tried quitting SPSS and reopening, restarting my laptop, running a diagnostic and everything seems to be fine until I try opening it. Could someone please help me with this issue?

    Thank you.

There is a hotfix for SPSS Mac 27 that might resolve this. You can get it here

I cannot find help in your community.  I purchased and own a license for SPSS 27.  I used to be able to access and run it on my macbook.  I can no longer use it on my macbook (Monterey OS).  Help!!!!!!

Can you tell us what happens when you try to run it?

One thing I'd like you to do is to try and start from a console window:

Open a terminal window. In it:

    cd "/Applications/IBM SPSS Statistics 27/SPSS Statistics.app/Contents/MacOS"
    ./stats

and please let us know what if any text returns to that window.

Thanks for responding.  Let me start from the beginning.  I purchased a SPSS 2-year license June 7, 2021 and successfully used it in 2021 on my MacBook Pro.  I just tried accessing SPSS for the first time this year and it fails to open.  It begins to open and then stops and closes and a JAVA window opened with a lengthy message (see below).  I'm just trying to access and use SPSS on my MacBook Pro with Monterey OS.  There seems to be a problem between my computer OS and SPSS now.  I'm sure the last time I used SPSS successfully I ran an older PS.

Did you try what I sent a little while ago?

    In a terminal window, type:
    cd "/Applications/IBM SPSS Statistics 27/SPSS Statistics.app/Contents/MacOS"

then when the prompt comes back:

    ./stats

Are you sure you submitted the command exactly as I gave them to you? These commands should change to the right directory and start statistics from the command line. I just tried it here and they work.

Sorry, I thought you said you were running version 27.

If you are running v28, then the directory is:

    cd "/Applications/IBM SPSS Statistics/SPSS Statistics.app/Contents/MacOS"

    ./stats

I have the same problem with the same SPSS Statistics 27 on my MacBook Pro MacOS Catalina 10.15.7.

I went to the link you provided and it said "No results were found that match your request.".

    What can I do?
