  • 1.  why is there no Name field in the report variable editor...

    Posted 26 days ago

This has bugged me ever since i started using ReportStudio!

Adding variables, and changing their names is such a pain There is no reason that there isn't a name field in the variable editor. And when you have to bulk update variables you have to click a thousand times more to update names.

I finally got round to creating an enhancement request and I'm asking for votes : https://ibm-data-and-ai.ideas.ibm.com/ideas/CA-I-4621

    Marc, 100% agree!  Voted!

I also have wished for the ability to "Find references to..." variables within the report to verify whether the variable is actually being used within the report; usually I just export the report spec to notepad and search for the variable name, and if there's only one reference to it (where it is defined), then it's not used in the report.  Sorry for the tangent, but also welcome ideas if you've found alternatives.

    Thanks for submitting the enhancement!

Alas I haven't got a better method of finding where variables are used.

It's about feature comparability and consistency within the UI - why aren't the functions consistent across the full product.

For example the report Find (on the more menu or ctrl+f, not to be confused with the browser find) has the ability to find objects with a conditional style in the 'find what' option. Why isn't Objects reference a variable in this find tool. Almost everything else is.
