In previous versions when I chose from the menu File > Open > Data and selected a .sav file, I had an option to paste the syntax instead of immediately opening the file. This is especially useful when data files are embedded in layers of sub-folders. Now (SPSS v. 28) there is no Paste option - all I can do is open the file.

Current versions of Statistics on Mac use the standard Mac file dialogs, which, of course, don't have the Statistics-specific controls.

BUT, go to Edit > Options and choose to use the Statistics versions of these dialogs. You will have all the controls you used to have.

I'm impressed by the quick reply - thank you. I am on an iMac running OS 10.5. But I do not see where to make this choice. Edit>Options has 13 sub-menus from General to Privacy. Where do I choose "Statistics versions"?

In SPSS the Menu Editor mainly supports adding or customizing items, but deleting or reordering isn't fully enabled, which is why the greyed-out delete option won't activate. A common workaround is to adjust display scaling in Windows so the full File menu becomes visible.
