I've rented an SPSS GradPack from OnTheHub and I didn't have any issues until I tried running a Compare Means procedure where the processor just gets stuck on "RUNNING..." and then crashes if I reenter the Compare Means procedure.

I am running the application on a MacBook Pro and it is Version 27. I have tried it with both UNICODE on and off and the issue persists.

Can you please provide the machine specifications from your Mac? Especially we need to know if this is a Mac 10.15. Catalina with i9 processor?

Do you get any relevant error text you can send to us, maybe on ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports

To look for crash report please do the below:

Open Finder, and choose the Go->Go to Folder and enter the folder address as shown below and click Go:

~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReport

This will likely show a bunch of crash logs from different applications. Maybe you can see a bunch of ones starting with "spssengine". Each one of these files contains clear information about where in the backend the SPSS code crashed.

Look for the last one for spssengine and open it in textedit.app

Thanks for reaching out. My Mac Specifications are as follow: MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2019), macOS Catalina Version 10.15.6 (19G2021), Processor: 2.3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9, Memory: 16 GB 2400 MHz DDR4.

I am not familiar with relevant error texts. I did visit the Diagnostic Reports and found a couple of files related to SPSS, the latest one was regarding the application's wake ups but it was far too long to send in here as a comment.

I have tried to copy and paste the information in the latest SPSS file found in the DiagnosticReport folder. Unfortunately, the text is far too long to copy and paste and its concerning the app's wake ups.

Thank you for additional information, maybe you can insert the crash log into a text file and upload it to the folder you can reach via below link. So far no one at IBM can replicate the crash, also not with i9 processor, so it would be good to get your crash report to maybe find out more, thanks

SPSS Development created a fix for SPSS 27 on macintosh that should prevent the software from Crash on i9 processor.

The fix is called 27.0-IM-S27STATC-MAC-IF006 and can be downloaded from IBM FixCentral on below link:

I followed all instructions with downloading Java, and then the Director, and the fix and then upon trying SPSS, it still did not work. It crashed instantly once I tried to run a Crosstabs procedure. I lost all hope with running this application on my MacBook and proceeded to get a windows Laptop where SPSS runs perfectly. I don't know whats wrong with the SPSS processor that doesn't let it work properly on my MacBook but something is up. No need to worry anymore about my issues, I have fixed them with the purchase of a new laptop :)

I am sorry that the fix did not help you. For the 3 other Mac users we had with a Mac crash the interim fix solved the issue on their Mac's. I do not know why it did not help on your Mac, but if you have another PC with Windows now, we may no longer pursue here, thanks.
