Why are some German characters changed to 2 characters?

  • 1.  Why are some German characters changed to 2 characters?

    Posted Wed January 15, 2003 01:36 PM

We have begun receiving from a German partner and have found that some of the characters are changed to 2 characters in Web Methods.

    Inbound Outbound

    sprf sprüf
    stra straße
    gem gemäß

Does anyone know why this is happening and how to prevent it?

We originally received all this through Trading Networks when we discovered the problem. I have created a test flow service where I have entered these values in directly, then do a recordToDocument and email the xmldata out as an attachment. The Results tab shows all values as still 1 character but the attached file has 2 characters.

    Thanks
    Steve

    Steven,

As a quick first guess, check the encoding header of the XML documents. The default is UTF-8, perhaps you need a more international encoding, such as ISO-8859-1.

    Good luck,

    Hi Ted.

We have the same problem here with the trading networks, but the encoding in the xml is ISO-8859-1.

    Greetings,
    Wilhelm
