Where did “XL” abbreviation in IBM XL Compilers name come from?

    There is a whole family of IBM compilers.

    But there is no information on what does "XL" mean.

    So, my question is where did "XL" abbreviation in IBM XL Compilers name come from?

    Hi Alexander - unfortunately the official explanation of the name seems to have disappeared from our official documentation, however the original "XL" name stands for eXceptionaL.
