I'm in the process of budgeting CAPEX vs. OPEX for budget season.  I'm being handed CAPEX numbers for first year purchases, and I know a part of that is maintenance, which is OPEX.  My question is, what is a good % to shave out of that number to call it maintenance for the year?  15%, 17%, 20%?

I don't have the current percentage used now but when I supported budgeting for software license, we were billed 17% for maintenance.

When you say maintenance, I reckon this is something you will be billed year on year aside from the CAPEX right? If so, use get those numbers and use that to arrive at the relevant percentage.
