Hi Rajeev,
a data module is the set of your data as a source. Queries are linked to data containers. Each data container has a query - a query can attach to multiple data containers. A data container is an object in your report that contains data (list, crosstab, chart, singleton etc).
Queries generate the necessary code (e.g. SQL) to read the data from the source. You have multiple queries to display different views of your data in one report. For example, you have a list with data of the current year and next to it a graph containing the data of the current month. Therefore you need one query that is filtered on the current year and a second one that filters on the current month and a specific product group.

Subject: What query actually means in Cognos Analytics
While I can understand that a data module needs to be created after uploading files before creating reports, it is not clear how query comes into the picture. It will help to know what query actually means in Cognos Analytics, and their role in reports.
