  • 1.  What plugins are needed just to download and install CICS, Db2 and z/OS?

    Posted Mon July 10, 2023 10:29 AM

    Good morning all,

I am running z/OS 2.5 and have the core zOSMF functions up where I can log into it via the web GUI. We are still checking a few things out as this is all new to us here.

Question is - Once I get the core functions working properly – most are now – what are the exact plugins needed to install new IBM software?

We are a shop where we will only use zOSMF to install the new software, so we just want to get the basics that are needed.

Thanks up front and we are looking thru the manuals now, but no clear sense of what the basics are just to get new software installed.

    Best Regards,

    Hi Claude,

To install new software from z/OSMF, you will need to enable "Software Management" plugin. You can reference z/OSMF configuration guide to setup Software Management. Link: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/zos/2.5.0?topic=services-configure-software-management-service

    Thanks

    Good morning Zhi Li,

Thank you for that information and I am well on the way since it is working as well as the ISPF part.

    Best Regards,

    Claude

    Hi Claude,

Also, you might want to use this web site:  https://www.ibm.com/support/z-content-solutions/serverpac-install-zosmf/  It will help you understand the installation process, and a little more on the requirements that you'll need (for instance the right SMP/E FIXCAT to use).  The multimedia videos, I've been told, are very useful to learn from.

Once you are ready to practice, notice that there is a sample z/OSMF portable software instance on that same web page too.   I would recommend practicing on this sample package, to ensure that you have everything set up correctly and you understand the installation process.

    Good morning Marna,

Thank you for the additional information and I actually came across this link yesterday and started watching one of the videos. You are right, as it is most helpful seeing the product in action to get a feel of the process of working with something new. Since I have been using ServerPac since the beginning, I will admit it was different getting used to a new methodology and the videos sure help that process.

    Best Regards,

    Claude
