Would like to know whether it is an AIX 5.3 "feature" or there is anything I can do to go to P7.

    thanks,

Probably very basic questions, but did you do LPM from a P6+ server to the P7 ? Or maybe the release of AIX 5.3 you have installed does not support Power 7 ?
The following article cover both cases : https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/mydeveloperworks/blogs/aixpert/entry/aix_support_for_power743?lang=en
