Public edition does not allow RFC connections, so any tool that is built on RFC connections will not work with it
You would need to use protocols that are built on HTTPS, such as REST, OData, and SOAP. Both webMethods and S/4HANA support all those. For traditional webMethods on-premise, the webMethods CloudStreams connectors would be desirable to use with those protocols
If you want subjective opinion, the private edition is worth the flexibility, especially if you are a larger organization or have an SAP legacy you are migrating

Subject: webMethods SAP Adapter on-premise connection to SAP S/4HANA RISE in the cloud via iDoc, RFC etc.
Hi Dave,
many thx for the valuable link.
There is no RISE edition around yet all, we are more interested in a technical capability study upfront, what is possible technical at all as of today.
Beside your quote above, the link for Adapter System Requirements also mentioned on one hand =>
"SAP Adapter supports SAP S/4 HANA Private Edition 1709 and all later versions running in AWS and MS Azure.
SAP Adapter supports MS Azure while connecting to SAP S/4 HANA Private Edition running in AWS and MS Azure, and while connecting to SAP ECC systems running in an intranet."
while on the other hand it mentions =>
" S/4HANA Cloud Edition is not supported"
This is somehow contradicting or is it meant that only S/4HANA Private Cloud setups are supported and not S/4HANA Public Editions ?
BR,
André

What edition of RISE do you have? The private edition should be more flexible in terms of networking and connectivity
The adapter system requirements doc has some more detail
https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/webmethods-adapters?topic=adapter-system-requirements
"In case of RFC connection errors when connecting to S/4HANA running in a Cloud environment, the following entry must be added to the IS
custom_wrapper.conf file: wrapper.java.additional.210=-Djco.cpic_keep_alive_period=30
• S/4HANA Cloud Edition is not supported"

Hi *,
I'm wondering if a webMethods on-premise installation can connect via the wM SAP Adapter to a cloud hosted S/4HANA (SAP RISE) system via traditional iDoc and RFC usage?
Any experience in here already? Anything special to consider or any references, documentation able to share?
Tried to find an answer online, but except following link that gives no further details I found nothing => webMethods Knowlegebase : How is it possible to Connect to SAP on Cloud from on-premise webMethods? (1782543)
Also the official wM SAP Adapter guide does not mention anything about S/4HANA in the cloud or RISE.
We are running webMethods 10.11 with SAP Adapter 10.1 on-premise.
Thx and BR,
Andre
