    Hi John

Many thanks for the session yesterday.

I would like to get some more clarity regarding moving the case instance. Its a follow-up question to what Swapnil answered yesterday in the chat.

Question : if I consider only case instance (no process instances) then does DB2 requirement still holds ? can I just reuse MSSQL -   Case databases(from traditional BAW ) in CP4BA
    Response : That's only DB2 as well for now. Please see: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/baw/24.0.x?topic=automation-moving-case-instances" href="https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/baw/24.0.x?topic=automation-moving-case-instances" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank" class="fui-Link ___1q1shib f2hkw1w f3rmtva f1ewtqcl fyind8e f1k6fduh f1w7gpdv fk6fouc fjoy568 figsok6 f1s184ao f1mk8lai fnbmjn9 f1o700av f13mvf36 f1cmlufx f9n3di6 f1ids18y f1tx3yz7 f1deo86v f1eh06m1 f1iescvh fhgqx19 f1olyrje f1p93eir f1nev41a f1h8hb77 f1lqvz6u f10aw75t fsle3fq f17ae5zn" title="https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/baw/24.0.x?topic=automation-moving-case-instances">https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/baw/24.0.x?topic=automation-moving-case-instances

I see two points here :

    1) No case instance migration: Reusing the case databases(in MSSQL) as is from BAW On-prem to CP4BA - is this something which is not going to work at all or will there be some implications afterwards ?

    2) case instance migration: I understand that this requires DB2 which is clear now.

It would be great if you can provide more clarity on point number (1)

    Thanks

    Hi Lakshya

By reusing the database related to Case Object stores, we ensure that the existing case instances start working on the new CP4BA environment, as if nothing happened. As an end user, only change is that you are now using the CP4BA based navigator/workplace to process the existing case instances and it would work perfectly.
    No migration for case instances.

We are doing validations for other database vendors like Oracle and MSSql in the upcoming release and we are also validating the backup and restore mechanism for Case related databases as well, so that you do not reuse the existing databases on CP4BA. That is still in the works.

    Hi Lakshya

Case instances migration from on-premise to CP4BA works in 24.0.1 (DB2) by reusing the databases. The migration for inflight cases happens seamlessly requiring no complex config changes or code changes.Backup and Restore of databases: We support backup and restore of DB2, Oracle and MSSQL databases for 24.0.1 (Testing is done in the 25.0.0 release time line). Tests are complete.Reuse of databases on Oracle and MSSQL: Our Test team has observed that re-use or restore of databases is having the same impact, for CPE and ICN databases. So no problems if either option is chosen. However, Backup and Restore way would allow the on-premise env to continue to run even after migrating to CP4BA.

Hi John, I just watched the reply of the session today. One question: source traditional BAW environment has (a) VMM directory config on Websphere and (b) embedded Content Engine and Content Navigator, legacy of initial BAW trad deployment which dates back to 2020. What would you advice to do in this scenario, to move it to CP4BA? I guess VMM and embedded content would not be compatible with the new feature in 24.0.1, so some additional steps would be needed to do some adaptation, before moving to CP4BA in this situation. Can you advice? Thanks, L.

Hi Leonardo, I think it will be a problem. Not sure about additional steps. I am involving the right SME to get details. Haven't forgotten about you.

    Hi Leonardo

The scenario applies to external CPE and external Navigator. We never considered VMM and embedded CPE/Navigator scenario, as generally it is not a preferred environment for customers in terms of scalability and performance as well as scenarios described in the link below on why you may want to move towards external CPE/Navigator. The suggested topology for customers is to have an external CPE and external Navigator along with an LDAP.

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/baw/24.0.x?topic=workflow-configuring-external-content-platform-engine

You should move towards an external CPE and Navigator environment on traditional first before migrating to CP4BA.

Do you have too many process and case instances on the embedded environment?

Or an alternative is to start fresh in the new CP4BA environment by importing your Process App(s) and Case Solutions and start creating new instances in CP4BA.
