Title: Improve Db2 Performance by understanding Statistics
Date: Tuesday, February 05, 2019
Time: 11:00 AM Eastern Standard Time
Duration: 1 hour
Join Db2 Optimizer Guru and expert Terry Purcell and learn how you can exploit Db2 statistics and improve productivity. The Db2 optimizer relies on statistics about tables and indexes. In most cases, if the optimizer could exploit more complete and accurate statistics, queries would perform better. While, Db2 users often only gather standard or default statistics. It's a challenge for users to identify what detailed statistics should be gathered for the specific queries. This is a main reason for sub-optimal(unsatisfactory) query performance.
Starting from Db2 11, the Db2 optimizer provides recommendations for missing/conflicting statistics via a new catalog table.
Db2 users can easily gather accurate and complete statistics for the optimizer to improve query performance.
Yet, this practical new enhancement has not been widely utilized by Db2 users. In this session, we will explain how to utilize and benefit from the feature.
