Way to have set Content as the default home page in 11.2?

  • 1.  Way to have set Content as the default home page in 11.2?

    Posted 03/02/22 11:54 AM
    Hello all,

    We recently moved to 11.2 and I'm looking for a way to set the 'Content' page as the default Home Page for all users. I know that you can set it in 'Profile and settings' for an individual account, but I'd like it to be the default for everyone. Users are getting somewhat confused by the new default welcome page.

    As an aside, is there a way to set the default portal content format for all users as well? (to list instead of tiles)

    Thank you!
    Eric

    Hey Eric,

    I actually just wrote an article for the PM2 newsletter that touches on this, but because it's you I'll give you a sneak peek.

    Basically the solution I found is to write a custom view that automatically redirects to perspective=content then apply that view to a role. Put all the users you want to redirect in that role.

    Upload the attached zip as an extension. Let me know how it works for you.

    You're the man Paul, Thank you! I figured it would have something to do with creating a custom home page. I'll give it a try later today and let you know how it goes.

    Worked like a dream. I set it as the global home page and everything is looking good. The personalized message for me was a nice extra touch ;).

    Also, I added an enhancement. If you add &tab=teamContent here in the JS code, you can also have it default to Team Content instead of My Content.

    Hi Eric - do you know if it's possible to add an option to have the folders show in list view?

    You can set the default view for the content page to either tile or list. By default, the content page displays in tile view unless configured otherwise.

    Procedure

    1. Navigate to Settings:

      • Click Manage > Configuration > System.
      • Select Advanced Settings.
    2. Set the Default View:

      • In the Key field, type Content.defaultView
      • In the Value field, enter one of the following:
        • tile - Sets the default view to tile.
        • list - Sets the default view to list.
    3. Apply Changes:

      • Click Apply.

    Hi Paul,

    Thanks for sharing your extension!
    The default Recent tab shows a Location in the list, however the Recent tab in your extension doesn't. How can it be modified to show Location as well, besides Name, Type and Last Accessed?
    Oops, my question does not belong here!
    I've added a comment in your Library post "Most Recent tab for Content Screen".

    For some reason I can't add comments to the libary! weird bug.

    This is frustrating. The answer should be to add

    "headers": [
      {"header": "name","key": "label"},
      {"header": "location","key": "path"},
      {"header": "type","key": "displayType"},
      {"header": "lastAccessed","key": "modificationTime"}
    ]

    after listOptions in the spec.json. It does work for the first load of the screen, but then if you go to team or my contents the location disappears. I'm not entirely sure what's going on.

    It would be possible to write a module to manually create the list, then we could control exactly what appears in it. But that's a lot of work.

    Hi Paul,

    We recently updated to 11.2.4 and used to above zip to set content page as default homepage.

    Now the home button refreshes the whole page and kills all sessions. Is there a way around for this?

    Without the extension set as home page this button would not refresh the page.

    Excuse my ignorance. I am new to Cognos. I was trying to upload the attached zip file, but getting error "The zip archive must contain at least one supported sheet'. I was using the 'upload data' option. Any other way I can do it?

    Hi Mathew,

    To apply an extension (this zip file from @Paul Mendelson is an extension) you need to go to:

    Manage> Customization>Extensions, then click the upload icon.

    Note your account/userid needs to have the applicable admin capabilities to be able to apply extensions.
