  • 1.  Variables not workin in syntax entry

    Posted 09/10/20 02:14 PM

    Hello,

I am trying to do a beta regression using the syntax function in SPSS. I found a site that allows me to just copy and paste the information into the syntax. I found that others were having a similar error (https://www.ibm.com/mysupport/s/question/0D50z00006PsGMo/nlr-command-issue?language=en_US), but the answer was not provided online.

I keep getting "The predicted value variable can't be identified. No variable is named PRED, and no PRED subcommand was found."

Please advise how to proceed, as this seems to be a common problem with the syntax.

That link is very old, and I don't have the solution that was provided back then. Please paste the syntax you are using. If you are using the NLR (or CNLR) procedure for this, you might want to consider the STATS PROPOR REGR extension command. This procedure estimates generalized linear models where the dependent variable is a proportion assuming a beta distribution. Parameters are estimated for the mean and precision parameters of the distribution.

That extension can be installed via the Extensions > Extension Hub menu. It requires R and the R Essentials.
