  • 1.  Utilize I-Frame capability in Cognos 11.1.6

My team is using 11.1.6 to deploy an enterprise solution across >1500 users.  We have primarily utilized the report functionality, because it does provides the highest degree of customization.  We are using regular (not active) reports.
In order to provide visibility of several KPIs in reports in a single report, we have leveraged the HTML I-Frame capability.  Using this feature, we are able to pass parameters from the parent level report down to the child report (I-Framed report).
This works great for viewing multiple charts, because the parent chart loads instantly, and the i-framed reports load in parallel.

However, the I-frames have "spinning circles" as the frame loads, which can potentially take anywhere from 4-8 seconds before it starts to load the report.  At first it appear to potentially be re-authenticating the users permission using single sign on.  Is it possible to pass a user's authentication through the I-frame to bypass any re-authentication?
Are there any other reasons that the windows in the HTML I-frames should have "spinning circles" for 4-8 seconds prior to showing the "Your Report is Running" dialogue box?

Lincoln – to rule out an issue with the report that is being loaded in the iFrame, could you create another simpler report that doesn't even fetch data and try to load that report into the iFrame.

Peter - thank you for the response.  Yes, we have simple "placeholder" views that have the same spinning circles.  here is a screenshot of the spinning circle.

here is an example of the simple placeholder report:

It is just simple text, but it still takes a few seconds for the i-frame to load.

@LINCOLN BENNETTE  - i would expect a few seconds to load the iFrame to be acceptable.  But this is just me.  The other things you could try is:
    • schedule the Active Report to run prior, a saved Active Report may open up quicker
    • sometimes it is just best to develop a web page hosted on a web server and make references to Cognos Analytics objects
