    Hi, 

    Interested to see if anyone is using or planning to use Visual Studio Code, plus plugins of course (Zowe etc) for the management of their z/OS environments and where they see this going if at all interested.

    Hey Ian,

    I currently use vscode leveraging the Zowe Explorer plugin to manage a few z/OS environments. It is great if you're familiar with more traditional mechanisms to manage systems (submitting a job to get something done, edit a configuration dataset, and issue an operator command).

    As for where I see things going, the current trajectory seems to be focused on providing bridges between the way things are traditionally done and how the next generation would like to do them. I feel this is very encouraging for the limitless future of management tooling. As for where I would like it to go, I would like to see more functionality provided by z/OSMF's web interface pulled into vscode by means of a plugin to provide stronger management capabilities from a single pane of glass.

    Just to be transparent, I do most of my system management using a combination of SSH and vscode. I rarely log onto the traditional TSO/ISPF interface to do anything anymore. I had been using TSO/ISPF since 2010.

    Happy to share my opinions on anything you may be interested in!

    Ian,

    Yes. Using vscode with ZOWE extensions. I am primarily involved with Capacity Planning/Forecasting and Performance related activities. Run lots of ad hoc jobs and REXX utilities. Also use the ZOWE CLI. A more seamless integration of REXX into VSCODE with access to the ZOWE APIs would be very valuable.

    Hi Kent,

    What sort of integration are you thinking of ?  One thing I'd like to see is the ability to do an EXEC directly from a PDS member containing REXX.   Is this what you're looking for are there other scenarios ?

    There is an open issue https://github.com/zowe/vscode-extension-for-zowe/issues/1784 "Ability to run REXX data set members from the Data Sets view".
    To get this bumped up the priority if you can do an upvote (add a thumbs up, or heart, or smiley emoji) to the issue this helps the squad put the right resource onto the issue.  You can also get colleagues to upvote also.
